First week on labour ward
Posted 26-May-2008 at 19:59 by sassy
Well, I have just done my first 3 nights on labour ward and I've loved it.
I have witnessed 6 normal births and 1 caesarean section. The section was upsetting. It was an emergency and seeing the woman so upset was awful, I felt so useless! The outcome however was a good one with mum and baby been fine.
I have given injections for the first time, enema's
(I thought they had gone out with the ark!!!) Plus lots more.
I should have had my first hands on but sadly babies heart rate slowed right down so I stood back and let the professionals get on with it. I'm in no rush, I know it will come.
I have done so much more than I thought I would, I love it. My mentor is wondeful too
The only problem I have had is my feet killing me. I think I need to part with some more money
and buy some more new shoes!!!

| | The unit is an average sized unit, and the reason for the enema was the woman reguested it. She needed to poo but couldn't so the midwife said she could have one is she wanted. It did her good though. She was 3cm when I gave her it, and an hour and half later she gave birth My first injection wasn't too bad, other than me letting go of the needle when it was in!!!! Only for a split second though cos I thought I'd put it in too far! I'm giving them on my own though now already! so I can't have done too badly. Poor women |
