Paperwork.....

Posted 29-Apr-2008 at 16:31 by Shoshana
Today I had the pleasure of going through lots of documentation with my student, P.

I tell you, you need a university degree to understand it all.....! Domains, evidences, learning outcomes, blah, blah, blah! I'm finding it all quite mind numbing.

She also introduced me to her university ePortfolio and blog, which was far more interesting.

On a brighter note, P is getting on well. We've worked several shifts together, over the past few days. I took the opportunity, during a quiet moment, to go over the delivery technique, with a birthing mannequin and doll. P said this was really helpful. The following day she delivered her second baby and, although I still had my hands on top of hers, she felt far more aware of what was happening and more confident with her role.

The wards have been unusually quiet over this weekend. But, we always pay for the quiet spells. I now have a few days off to enjoy and re-charge my batteries.

Thanks for your comment Tracy. It's not a pelvis that I used, but a model of a woman's belly down to her thighs and all the bits in between. I assumed most hospitals have them, for skills-drills (when you practice managing situations like Shoulder Dystocia and vaginal breech delivery.)

I know from buying my NCT resources that they are not cheap. I've been trying to find an image of this mannequin, but I can't find one. It is a really good teaching tool.
