hi everyone i know im a way of from going to uni but im stressing out a bit about childcare. do i get help with my kids if my oh works( hes on good money although some weeks we struggle) my kids ar all in full time education and im worried how i will be able to afford the breakfast and after school club and during school holidays? obviously i will have to go to uni early and be home after they finish school and when they have their school holidays !!!! if i dont get help with independents do i use my bursery or student loan to help pay for it? i know a lot of students are mums so i was wondering how you cope with working and looking after the kids when your at uni? also what about when your on placement do you get to work around your kids as my after school club starts at 8 and finishes at 6, well sorry for rambling on i have looked it all over but still a bit confused ,any advice would be really helpfull thanks xx

| | Am in a similar position to you - my hubby's salary will prevent me from getting any bursary so am awaiting a decision on a Student Loan. I have applied for the maximum - am RELYING on the maximum!! I've booked my youngest two into a before and after-school club for September (£7 per hour for the two of them), my daughter is old enough to walk home with a friend and go to H's parents' house. Luckily my mum is around a couple of days a week, too, although I musn't encroach too much on her retirement!!! lol!I have just advised my manager at work that I need to keep my Sundays and Monday evenings otherwise it would be too hard financially. I also want to do this for continuous service with the NHS and my pension!! That will be fun.. working, the course, kids, the house, husband.. Will be about £500pm down from September. The holidays will be interesting.. I think we will be taking it day by day! The club can take them for the holidays but hopefully my husband will take some time off, too - you know, seeing as they are his children!!! ![]() My course doesn't have placements in the first year: it's two days at uni and three shifts per week with a mentor midwife which sounds do-able. I will be juggling the kids between the after-school club, hubby and my mother. I was feeling a bit guilty about this but after having read (on here, sorry I have forgotten the name of the poster!) that her kids were better for it, I am not struggling with the idea too much anymore - they will adapt and the time I spend with them will be even more special. (Aaargh! Still struggling a little lol) ![]() I am sure you will get through the confusion and come up with a plan - things seem to fall into place, somehow. Good luck!! xx |

| | Worrying for me too as I have 2 children aged 1 and 3 currently. Steve earns a decent wage so I'm not banking on much of a bursary (if at all) but we have quite a lot of debts so his money gets swallowed up quickly xx |

| | thats what i was wondering as we also still need the money but i wonder what happens with your job when your in class i dont suppose it will fit in with uni but it will good for experience i was hoping to apply for a mca but like everyone says we will have to take it one day at a time which i hate as i like to plan ahead! |

| | Well I do 4 evenings a week so it wouldn't interfere with uni hours but it could interfere with placement depending on what shift my mentor was working......I just don't see how I can not have any income at all |

| | i totally agree i work as ahca and love the experience that i get. I am going to try and get work from the bank so i can work when not at college. I like my independence and my own money. |

| | Although I haven't even started working with them yet, I'd make sure you all enroll with NHS Professionals. You can keep up your pension payments and pick shifts around placement / class. That's what I'm hoping to save my bacon!!! Stace - you sound well prepared. I wish you all the best, but I'm sure you won't need it and it will all work out fine xxx |
