Well .... here it is... 2009..... Let’s make it a fantastic year for your midwifery career, mums and babies and midwifery education.

Looking over the past year through my SMNET eyes, it’s been a brilliant year! We have made it to be the most popular midwifery education/social site in the world and were only just pipped at the post by the NMC!! We have also seen our first SMNET cohort start Uni and start caring for mums and babies out there in the field and that has been incredible to be part of............ I remember looking over the PS's of many of you who have since got places and are out there now catching babies and making a difference in the world.... amazing! I'll be all tearful like a proud mum when you guys are in year 2 and the next 'batch' gets their places!!!!

It’s great to see the SMNET community go from strength to strength welcoming newbie’s and supporting one another through everything from applying to getting that first NQM post. It really is a special place here and that’s down to you guys.... thank you for continuing to support SMNET and each other and keeping this place the amazing place it is.

Now that the cool Yule has passed (and cool it has been!! if you are anywhere warm then I am so jealous..... at least you don’t have to wear the monster feet slippers I was given for Xmas.... I’m sure pics will follow as Rob finds it hilarious and make jokes about me needing a pedicure.....) Anyway I’m off on one again.... where was I? Ah yes..... The New Year.... we will be getting the regular monthly quiz nights back on track and will be working on a few new docs etc to support you and your learning. If anyone has any special requests do feel free to PM me and I'll see what we can do.

I’d like to encourage you all to grab yourself an SMNET mentor or become a mentor this year - having a mentor and a friendly face when you start placement and uni is invaluable.

Also Id encourage you all to get involved in the SMNET social groups and get out there meeting up with other members in the Pudding Clubs and chatting about midwifery and eating pudding!

Good luck to all of you who are applying for places and big hugs to all of you waiting to hear I remember how painful and frustrating that was! And to all our current student midwives...... we are all here to support you through whatever you are faced with or experience.... and of course we are here to let off steam to, grab some down time with or just hang out!

Sending you all much love and thanks for being part of the SMNET community xx
