Feeling a bit more upbeat....
Posted 08-Jun-2008 at 21:50 by upsy daisy
Well, it's been a funny old week - my Uncle passing away obviously upset us all even though we were expecting but I know that he's no longer in pain...the funeral is on Weds which will be hard but everyone is doing their bit to give him a good send off.
Good news on Fri - finally someone from the college rang me back, I'd left message after message trying to find out if they had any places left on the access course and what I'd need to do about applying....was starting to get dishearted, no least because one of my colleagues (doing same job as me) applied ages ago, had an interview and been offered a place so I was starting to convince myself that I'd left it too late...anyway - got a call back apologising for the delay - seems that the college's phone system had had a technical fault and they'd only just got the messages - however, I still didn't get a definite answer as the girl that called me said it was another lady that dealt with the access to healthcare course so she'd pass on my details for her to call me (by this time it was around 4pm Fri so didn't expect a call back), she said she did think there would be places still left so there may still be hope....hopefully I'll hear something from them this week!!
Another good thing, on Sat I went in for my evening shift and one of the M/W's who I'd helped out with some stuff on the computer that she was struggling with had bought me a box of chocs to say thank you! She said that she wanted me to know that my help was appreciated and she knew she'd caused me extra work (which I hadn't minded at all!!!) - it was just so nice to feel appreciated rather than "in the way" as I sometimes feel!!
To top off my lovely few days, OH suggested we take the kids out today as it was such a lovely day - this was a lovely surprise as much as I love my OH he's such a lazy thing at times and often doesn't want to do much at weekends (whereas I like to be on the go constantly!!) so we went round some historical gardens and ruins - it was just so lovely to be out in the fresh air and sunshine and we had a picnic which the kids loved!! Then we went for a BBQ at my Mum and Dad's so it was a nice end to a nice weekend!

Ahhh it's good to hear things are picking up for you! Even if there are no places left on the access, get them to take your details and call if anyone drops out. Iv'e been on access before and by the end of them i'd say at least half of the class drop out because of the work load. Keep trying you will get there in the end!
Sorry to hear about your uncle, sounds to me like he's bringing you some good weather and probably gave your OH a boot up the backside to get up and go out at the weekend lol!!
Keep us updated with the access course!

I'd be surprised if the college doesn't grab your hand off, so to speak, if it's anything like the college here - they are "businesses" after all and want to get as many good candidates in (and paying for courses) as possible. As Cariblue says, a LOT of people drop out, so someone like you who knows what they want to do and will work hard to succeed will be extremely valuable to them.Posted 09-Jun-2008 at 11:32 by Daphne

Glad you had such a lovely weekend.
I'm so sorry about your uncle, recently my grandmother died and even though we all knew it was coming and had literally been waiting for it to happen, it was still very hard.
Good luck with college, I have a feeling you will get in. xPosted 09-Jun-2008 at 13:49 by RainbowGoddess
