I would only buy Mayes OR Myles noo, I can't see how you would need both to be honest.

Definately not. They are the same book really but in different formats.

I bought far too many, and lots were not too useful. I get mine out of the library, mostly. It got too expensive trying to buy them all.

Lots of us have learned there are so many and you think you'll need them all when you don't...

I so miss buying new buying new books though...

Was looking at one in class today, looks good, smells lovely too....£17. Not a bad price, but £17 too much

Oxford Handbook - it's small enough to take on placement and really useful
Ballieres Dictionary - very useful
A good A & P book - I like Coad and Dunstall
Johnson and Taylor Skills for Midwifery Practice - an excellent book to refresh skills just before going out on placement
Mayes or Myles should get you nicely through the first year at least!!

Is it really personal preference re: Mayes/Myles or do the unis prefer you use one or the other? I'm tempted to leave buying that one til I get to uni and see which they prefer me to use... I don't know.

It's down to personal preference, some of my cohort have Mayes, some Myles. I looked at both and preferred Myles, don't know why really, just preferred it.

They are always both listed on the reading list... They have the same content pretty much but some peeps prefer one to the other.

I had Mayes, it was good. But prob think Myles is better

tbh, with all the other books you have brought, i wouldn't even bother anyway!! It's a good reference book and will get you through the first year, so why not just borrow it from the library. You wont be able to use it from the second year onwards I wouldn't have thought, as it is all secondary referencing so quite useless for essay writing.
stick with what you have, your bursary wont go much further believe me!

I really enjoyed Pharmacology for Midwives. Also I enjoy Soo Downe's Normal Childbirth: Evidence & Practice. I have three American ones that I really like by Anne Frye. Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and the other one; errr, the thinking woman's guide to something something.. sepia coloured cover.

Am pants at titles, I know.
