Default Top 5 Books

Ok, so I've been looking online, in the book shop and at these threads and I've made a list of books I would like to get for when I start my course. But... this list is way to long and there is no way I can afford them all!

So, what are your top five books? Which have been the most useful but at the same time easy(ish) to understand but still jam packed with info? What books have been the best for your first year? (feel free to make a separate top five for that if you like!) I wanna know what the best books are for someone on a tight budget!

Rie

My top five in no particular order are;

Myles textbook for midwife's
Oxford Handbook of Midwifery
Skills for Midwiffery Practice
Ballieres Midwifery Dictionary
Essential Anatomy & Physiology in Maternity Care.

The other books I have found useful are;

The New Midwifery
Midwife's Labour and Birth Handbook
Examination of the Newborn.

Hope that helps.

I think either Myles or Mayes is essentail to have, a good A & P book, i also think the ballieres dictionary is good because its small and you could take it on placement with you then if you hear anything you dont understand you can just flick through it and find out.

I also like The New Midwifery, and Midwifery by Ten Teachers.

It is really good, you won't regret it, a great one for taking anywhere and softbacked too, so you can read it in bed. I always take it on clinical placement with me and read it if I get time.

I agree with missy. They would be my top 5 too.

It is hard when you first start. I remember wanting to buy all the books. I had to stop myself after my first month as i realised the bursary really did not go far.
