Default Need advice please

Hiya one of the girls i chat to on the internet is

35+ 5

Having strong pains in the lower bk since last week

i told her to phone the hospital so they could monitor her and the midwife on the phone told her she was too early to be in labour

She saw her midiwife the next day and said she could possibly be in labour with no examination

Surely someone could monitor in the hospital or give her an internal to find out if something is happening ???

Im not a midwife (YET) but would just liek advice from you guys

Spunky xx

She could phone the labour suite and tell them she thinks she is in labour, however, if she has had the pain since last week, it is unlikely to be labour. Depending on whether this is her first baby or not, and the position the baby is lying in, it can cause back pains which are just a symptom of being heavily pregnant.
It could also be a urine infection causing pain.
I would suggest that she phones the labour ward and insists that she come in to be checked out. If it is not labour, they will soon send her home again to await events. However, if it is labour or something else, they can deal with it there.

Sounds quite bonkers!

She should be admitted at least to maternity daycare, or antenatal ward for Urinalysis, obs and a CTG!

I cannot beleive that they won't see her? Too early to be in labour? what?

I wouldn't say she would need a VE unless there were other signs, such as pain she could not cope with, PV loss, membrane rupture etc. She does need to be seen really.

i suggest she rings again and insists she is seen if only for the above investigations to ensure all is well.
