Couple of reason, firstly just because i've always wanted to go.. And secondly I want to see it they are still using the guidelines Adrian O'Driscoll set up about active management..
Theres two hospitals I'm looking at over there, one very busy high risk unit, one low risk -one midwife one mother - unit.. Would like to do 2 weeks in each!

I have thought about this since before I started my course, and can't really decide what I want to do.

Going abroad isn't an option cos of lack of finances, but I am considering maybe a neo natal unit, that really interests me and has done since my daughter was in one for 3 weeks when she was born. But, I do already have a placement on there in my second year.

I am hoping to get some inspiration from this thread on other things I may want to try.

Pauline

I loved by SCBU placement. It felt like a natural home for me. To the point where on my end of placement interview the ward sister, my mentor, said if I thought about doing my neonatal nursing training to come back and see her for a job! Loved it, and alot of the reason why I loved it came from from my mentor, her passion for neonatal nursing is contageous.

I think working somewhere like the neo natal unit or scbu must be a very rewarding job, but also at times very heartbreaking.

It is something I am definately thinking of doing for one of my electives (do we get more than one?)

Hello there, I was going to go to a different trust than the one I'm based at, but regarding Dublin 2 of our students went there for their electives to the high risk and they said they offered them both jobs and would let them practically pick and choose hours. They shared their experiences at our uni conference in sept, and spoke of the active management out there, but said the women expected and it and oddly enough said it worked well there, but not for them!
Back to my elective I think I'm going to try and go to New Zealand now, it seems to good an opportunity to miss, my partner is fully supportive as we would like to emmigrate there asap-butttttttttt finances are very stretched mm student loan me thinks-like yesterday x
