Default Community Caseloading

We are very excited as we are going to be organising a community caseload for the last 7 weeks of our training.
We have to set up and organise the whole project. Care for the women during the ante natal period, go into hosp with them and deliver them and then provide their post natal care.
We will be given a bag per team with all necessary equipment and a phone, but we will have to work independantly and call the hospital delivery suite if we need advice - otherwise we are on our own.
Has anyone else had any experience of doing something like this, and if so, any tips for us or pitfalls to avoid?

That sounds really exciting and wanted to wish you luck (not that you'll need it) and hope you have some lovely deliveries. Look forward to reading about your final placement.

I heard you guys talking about the caseloading when you were doing the 'new student thing' for us on Monday. It sounds fab! You guys know what you're doing and you'll be great! It sounded as though you'll be getting a lot of support. Keep us informed of how it's all going, when are you going to start it?

I am interested to know how your work will be counter-signed and how they will work out under whose pin you will be practicing. Are you planning on calling in qualified midwives to be your seconds at homebirths?

Yep CG, we will have to have a qualified there for homebirths, otherwise we are on our own. You will be given confidence cases in the hospital when you are in your 3rd yr anyway, where you work on your own and call a midwife in when vertex is visible. This is the same, just a small step further along to being completely independant.

ah Good Luck. Was out in the community when the first lot of caseloaders came out, and i think they really enjoyed it, absolutely fantastic for confidence building as you say. Am glad they have sorted a phone, and hope they sort out petrol as well, as this seemed to be causing a few headaches.
Am relaly jealous, can't wait to get out in the community again
Enjoy!
