What do you all think about these women? Be honest, I'd love to hear your opinions, others often have a differing views on this topic, I think its a controversial issue, one minute I sway towards normality, and suggesting otherwise, the next minute, I consider choice, and a woman's right to choose her care appropriately to meet her needs.
I also think support is highly recommended if the woman is frightened like i said i think they should have all the information on c-sections (when you have the first meet with your midwife you dont have any info on c-section just a little piece in bounty)-doesnt really explain much

which ever midwife is caring for the woman she must be very again supportive and to assure the new mum is not alone

Im not entirely sure what i have said is right but if it was me thats what i think i would do, as a midwifes job is to be supportive care for and empower women

Hi i think it varies on case to case.

I have had 4 different births and i would opt for a nother C section if i had another. My first DD was born by forceps after a failed ventouse and it was vert traumatic and her face was very badly bruised and looked awful it was not how i thought it was going to be. My second DD was a normal SVD everything went great and i came home after 6 hours. My DS everything was going great and then he got his heartrate dropped and never recovered then went totally so i ahd a crash section under general and it was all scary i didnt even know what i had till i woke up and then i was poorly so it was about 3 hours before i saw my son and i feel that i lost vital time with him. My last child i had an elective section under a spinal block and it was great i got to hold her straight away while they were suturing me up and i didnt lose any time with her.

i was told with my last that i could have a normal delivery as i had had previous deliveries but i chose not to as the last had been traumatic and my consultant oked that adn for that i was greatly pleased.

My own feeling is that c/section should only be offered if there is clinical indication. I know that when a woman has experienced a traumatic birth, the idea of a c/section is appealing. But, the risks to the mum's health, both short term and long term, are so much higher with a c/section. All the evidence points to this.

I am more in favour of women having access to proper counselling following traumtic births and all women having 1:1 care during labour, to give them confidence and closely monitor their progress and the baby's wellbeing in labour.

I agree Shoshana.

I had a very traumatic birth with my first, it terrified me. My daughter also had her head 'banged' on the lamp they were using that caused a nasty burn and her been rushed off to be checked by a pedeatrition (sp!). She was then on SCBU for almost 4 weeks and as breastfeeding wasn't initiated until day 4 she wouldn't take to it which just broke my heart
I was lucky though that by the time I had my second child 8 years later, I had 'found' myself, so to speak and I was very clear about what I wanted from my birth and wasn't willing to be pushed around as had previousley happened.
I did get a lovely birth, although it still wasn't without it's worries, but, I feel with good support from midwives women can start to overcome their fears and go on to have better births

LOl at the faces.

The registrar that 'delivered' (I don't call it birh, because it wasn't) her was just awful.
Firstly, she shouted at me for been a 'stupid little girl' for not having an epidural Not that anyone had suggested I had one (I had pre-eclampsia-High BP), shouted at my mum for touching the sturrups!

She also told my mum to leave the room is she was going to faint!
Mum had just been told by the midwife that my BP was so high they thought I was going to have a sroke, so as you would imagine, my mum was terrified. But, she just stood in the corner out of everyones way, never looked likely to faint once, lol.

She practically ripped Tamara out from me after I'd had a huge Episiotomy, without been asked.
Then told me to be quiet when she was stitching me because I complained that it hurt

When I was pregnant with Jorge, I told them if the same registrar was there as a locum etc I would not have her in my room under any circumstances. Luckily she wasn't

Sassy, that all sounds terrible, you poor thing.
Well done for finding your voice though and getting the birth you wanted and deserved in the end.

Oh sassy. More at your birth story. It shouldn't be like that. Even when things are getting a bit serious, there is no need for any health professional to talk to a woman in the way that you were spoken to.

I agree Shoshana and even as a student I know I would never stand by and allow that to happen to a woman. Although, I live in hope that it's not as bad as that anymore!!!! I sadly feer though that I may be proved wrong over the next two and a half years
