Default Re: First night on call..............

It is someone who is having their first child

Primigravida- is a woman pregnant for first time
Primipara- is a woman who has given birth to a child, whether alive or still born
Multigarvida- a woman who has previously had more than one pregnancy
Multipara- a woman who has had more than 1 child, wherther alive or still born

They are often referd to as a primip or a multip! I always tell women what it means when been written in their materninty notes so they know they are not been classed as Aliens or anything!

A first time mum will usually take a lot longer to birth than a mum who is having 2nd/3rd baby. Hope that helps
