Went on to labour ward with my community mentor yesterday and ended up getting my 1st catch! I knew the woman from the community which made it extra special and she delivered her baby kneeling on the bed. She had a gorgeous 7lb 11oz little girl with only a bit of Entonox in the last hour. I love this job

CONGRATS oh how nice you knew her. You will also be able to follow her up in the community now. Thats a really nice first catch. You will never forget the first catch.

Congrats!!!! There is no feeling like it is there? How lovely that you got to care for the woman before hand, particularly for her as she had familliar faces, which is always nice.

You should write a reflection about this, just a personal one that you can look back on should any occasions arise where you dont feel like you love the job so much! They are few and far between but you never know!

A reflective piece is a great idea I think I'll do that thanks! I had three witnesses Sarahbs so was just expecting to witness this one too but the midwife just encouraged me to get stuck in! I had said previously to people that I wouldnt feel comfortable catching just yet but tbh it just felt totally natural after being with her all day. I know its something I'll definitly not forget!
