Im half way through a 4 week Community placement. It's my first year. I've had 3 different mentors already (bad Uni planning), only one of them has truely inspired me tbh. I was on call last night, but nothing happened, and am on call tomorrow night.

Am bricking it about my Non-midwifery placement next year more than anywhere else, but think that's down to being direct entry and feeling awkward, and knowing nada!

I got home at 3am and had the biggest grin on my face ever! Id had a good overview in my first day! I wrote a reflection about it for my CAP doc, Id suggest keeping a diary of those first weeks, its wonderful to look back on
My mentor has a clinic Monday morning, so that should be interesting.

I have the opportunity to be on call too, but my only problem is I don't drive, so I would have to get a taxi to wherever, my mentor is going to talk to me about it once I get started, really hope I can manage one night at least with her. I really really want to witness a home birth as my first one.

I have a little note book so I can make notes to reflect on and look things up later.

Good luck to you, hun. It will be hard, for me nothing can be as bad as the first day!!!
Aw I know what you mean, my unit is so **** scary! But once I sucked up a bit and made some cakes for them it was easier. I take each day as it comes and see how it goes. Overall I like it, but it scares me so much each time. Only a four week placement though, not back till May.

You do eventually stop feeling totally stupid!

I'm on delivery at the mo! Only got 3 more weeks and then thats it no more till I qualify eek eek and eek again! I've only had 1 physiological 3rd stage and it was fab 9 mins bless her. I've scrubbed (to take baby) for 8 sections now and we also prep for c/s and so far our midwives scrub aswell for instruments so 2 midwives per section, its mad!! rate at mo is 24% Its awful isn't it?

Talking Re: Where are you?

I've got my last shift on labour and delivery suite tomorrow, after being on there for 4 weeks. It's the first time that I have felt confident on there, and have actually really enjoyed it. And, I'm on a roll, I did my first successful (had many many many unsuccessful) ARM, and then did my first bit of suturing, which I didn't mess up, surprisingly! I left that woman the same way she came in and I'm so chuffed with myself! (Mind you, it only needed 2 stitches, but I won't let anyway take that away from me! lol

This is great to discuss our different placements/mentors etc.. Its reasurring for me that we're all in the same boat, with the same fears/expectations all experiencing the same highs and lows, keep it going, its a great support network on here x

I am on delivery at the moment and loving it, well most of the time I suppose, I have had 4 catches so far so at least that's a good start right!

Great start!!! I remember two weeks when I didn't assist a single birth! Low point. Amazing how quickly you catch up, specially on nights I've noticed.
