Hey Duel,

I remember that feeling! Its like being a first year again! I found that when I got back on delivery I was fine, its amazing what you think youve forgotten but when you are there it all comes flooding back! Are you on your non-midwifery placements at the mo?

I go out into the community on Monday and I can't wait.

This will be my first placement, I only started uni in September.

Are you looking forward to them? I loved Theatres! I was dreading it thinking I was going to get shouted at for breathing LOL but it was fascinating. I even got to assist with a prolapse! Well, I tied off a suture ... that counts right? hehe

o0o0o0 you are at that uber exciting time, I loved Community in the first year, still do now. On my first day I did a few home visits with my mentor, then an antenatal clinic and then we were called into the hospital that night to deliver one of the women who had a stretch and sweep in clinic! I got home at 3am and had the biggest grin on my face ever! Id had a good overview in my first day! I wrote a reflection about it for my CAP doc, Id suggest keeping a diary of those first weeks, its wonderful to look back on

Just to be devil's advocate, I really didn't enjoy my community placement, much prefer the wards.. But I think it's personal preference.. I always feel like I am much more confident on the wards and get to give good care instead of rushing a clinic or from one house to another, but prehaps thats just the area I am in..

Yea, I was like that... at one point I was thinking 'what am I training to be again?' but once you come back in to midwifery you realise how much it did inform your practice, just didnt feel like it at the time some days, especially when you are emptying geriatric bed pans! Well, thats how it was for me anyway! Cardiology sounds interesting, we didnt get to do that! One thing I wish I had done was look at my domains and skills before I went on gynae I just assumed they were irrelevant to gynae but the after I realised I could have collected a few signatures in my CAP!
