I have to say this is my worse fear when I start. It may be because I always have a nightmare when I have blood taken as I have awful veins. It usually takes them 3 attempts to find the vein and by that time i am feeling really ill.

Well i don't know whether to laugh or cry... after getting psyched up for blood taking my mentor is off sick this week (my last week in this placement!).

Don't think i'm going to get the chance to do any bloods now until i'm back in community in 6 weeks time.

Maybe this was just the way it was meant to be! The women are safe for another 6 weeks lol!!!

Thats a shame, Cant you ask the person your working with if you can have a go? Then at least you will have got it over with and will be more confident about it when your back in community.

Well done Tiff, i took blood for the first time last week as well, it was only one bottle and it went like a dream, even tho i also had very sweaty hands!!!!!!! i was so pleased! the women said 'do you mind if i look away, i said id prefer it!!' lol

then did it the other day with a different mentor and couldnt do it but she said not to worry as they often have days like that so i didnt beat my self up about it but was quite disappointed that id messed up after just the first one, i think it was because i did it the first time how my mentor did it and she was guiding me, but i forgot how she did it when it came to it again so it went wrong i managed to move the needle as i was putting the bottle on, i felt awful then as we had to use a different arm on the girl (i let the mca do it that time as i didnt want to mess up twice!)
hopefully ill do some more with mentor and gain confidence and remember how to do it!!

thats the one thing am worried about taking blood - it's such a scary process. I remember one time when a man was taking my blood my arm was aching that whole day and for a couple of days my arm looked bruised...
