Default Gynae placement

i'm startin my gynae placement on monday and i am soooo nervous. I dont no why, usually i look forward to new placements, meeting new people etc. but i just feel really nervous about this one. I have done a three month stint on a gynae ward with a previous course and loved it so just don't no why am so nervous now!!! Any words of wisdom from anyone out there? how has everyone else found gynae placements? (if you have to do them as part of your course)

Hi
I chose gynae as my elective placement when i did nursing, i loved it. Take from it what you can, you are not going to work in that area anyway. Hope that is of help x

good luck with your gynae placement, i have mine coming up but not until september. I know what you mean about new placements, they are exciting but nerve wracking as you have to get to know a whole different group of people and a while new way or working. And as soon as you get used to it, you are off somewhere else again!!
hope it goes well for you, nerves are a good thing, they keep you on your toes!!
good luck
x

I'm a bit nervous as i start my gynae placement a week on monday just for 1 week and then i go to Outpatients for 1 week.

I'm looking forward to outpatients as they have said they will try and get me into clinics that will help me with my chosen prfession so that should be good.

I understand your nervousness! I like Olly am doing mine in Spetmeber and although interested in some of the places, absolutely dreading going!

I have only just started to feel comfortable on labour ward and P/N ward!

Good luck with it and let us know how it goes?

I loved mine. Was nervous at first but hang out with the HCAs and learn the ropes, where everything is etc. I fitted in fine with my team as I kept asking to help, do stuff etc and they accepted me in telling me stories about student midwives who leant up against walls and didnt get involved etc! So thats my top tip! also go to as many clinics as you can as its fascinating and gives you a good understanding of the other aspects of womens health issues.

Mind you I did come away thinking I dont want to be a woman anymore after seeing what can go wrong and what collapses into what as you get older!

Hahaha J ™, I have been thinking the same - having spent all of last week in the gynae theatre! I never want to have my 'intimate' bits prodded, poked and pulled like I have seen! It's makes you want to cross your legs!
