Talking Woohoooooo!!!!

I done it!!!! I took blood today!!!!!!!!!!!!

Started the day by feeling for veins before my mentor (usually feel them after shes found one!), another midwife from the team came to join us for a working lunch!! I felt for the vein in one lady but couldn't really feel it, so midwife showed me where it was then just passed me the needle and said 'there you go then'. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! I was very calm, needle went in, vacuum container put on and .................... nothing!!!!
Lady then said that people often had difficulty finding a vein!!! Relief!!!!!!! I've never experienced relief like it lol!!!!

Next lady came in and my mentor said that this lady's vein has your name on it Cami! Put needle in, vacuum container on and YAY we had blood!!!!! Had to contain my excitement until i had filled all 4 bottles! Just had a huge grin on my face! When the woman left the room, i waited until she was out of earshot and cheered!!!!! lol!!!

Am so glad i've done my first successful one now, most of my worst firsts are over now! First VE last week, first blood, first forceps..........just need first catch, first kiwi and first c/s and first sutures! lol still a long way to go but i love it sooooo much.

Am on call tonight, have never been called out yet!!! Hopefully that'll change tonight! Just need 2 more 'normal' witnesses then i can get hands on! How exciting is that!!!

Sorry to go on but have had such a fab day and just couldn't contain my excitement!!! lol!!!

Well done, I'm not looking forward to taking blood! When I did my first aid training I went all queasy when they were talking about blood - that was just talking about it! But I saw everything when my sister had her son last year and was ok... also last year as a first aider I had to deal with someone who had a nasty injury (finger bones sticking out) and I coped with that. So I just don't know how I'll get on taking blood...

Hi Cami x
Well Well what a day you've had. Congratulations
I performed a PKU today thankfully the little lovey bled just perfect.
Fingers crossed I'll do Anti D next week !!

I'm going to start on my EDPL this weekend, I agree the word count is tough.
Passed my ECDL module last week what a relief.
On call tonight, fingers crossed.

Take care B x

That's great stuff Cami, well done you, I have still got to take blood for the first time yet, and I am really nervous about it.

I am slowly getting the hang of giving Vit K injections to babies, and that isn't as scary as i thought it would be. Good luck with the rest of your 'firsts', you will be fine.
