Default First ever night shift

I did my first ever night shift last night, and I have to say I was really nervous about it. I had no idea how I would cope with being awake all night, or what the shift would be like.

I had a lovely shift, the staff that were on were lovely, we had some reallty good laughs during the night, and it was a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

I felt fine and wide awake until 5am ish when I could have just curled up and gone to sleep lol.

I managed to get two lovely catches, both were pre-term and and as a result they were little dots lol. One weighed 4lb + (can't remember the exact weight now) and the other one was 5lb 2ozs. The smallest one had to go to scbu for a little while to be monitored as his blood sugar was quite low, but the he is fine otherwise.

Hoping for another lovely shift tonight, and who knows maybe catch number 11 lol.

Oh im really pleased for you. If you get the right staff in a night shift (or any shift) it can be such a nice relaxed shift. Congrats on the catches. I have been on labour ward for two days and have done 4 c/s, Oh well.

Good luck for tonight!

They're great aren't they! I did my first ever set last week and got 7 deliveries over the 3 shifts - just cos it was over a weekend and so all the other students were avoiding it and I got the pick of the bunch - looking forward to the next lot now!

Fab M glad you enjoyed your first night shift, they have the bonus of being more relaxed as theres less calls and no day unit aswell as being great for catching babies! Is that how you found it then MM?

Hope you have a great night tonite!

well done missy!! its great when you have good shifts!

i like night shifts, but am not so hot on the way they make you feel afterwards, the days it takes to get your normal sleep pattern back and the sleeping in the day.

but, saying that, i have had some really good night shifts- lots of toast, laughing and relaxed catches!!
