Default Re: on demand vs traditional

It's an interesting article but it does state that the study used a relatively small group of women so it may not be totally representative.
I'm very pro breastfeeding and breastfed both my babies exclusively for their 1st 12 months. My eldest was traditionally breastfed , the reasoning behind this was that he was a Premmie and therefore required feeding via NGT every 3 hours - by the time he was discharged from neonatal care he'd pretty much adopted this 3 hourly routine. We had some early weight gain issues but by the time he was 12 months old he was back on the 50th centile (where he'd been at birth). My 2nd son was a term baby and again on the 50th centile at birth, I breastfed on demand and initially he piled on the weight and then it evened out and at 12 months he was only on the 9th centile so actually a much smaller baby than his Premmie brother!
I've waffled a bit here but what I mean to say is that every baby is different and will gain weight at different rates and every Mum will prefer a different method of feeding - whether that be traditional or babyled B/F or traditional or babyled A/F. I think as long as baby is happy and healthy then whatever goes really!!
