By the end of the workshop, participants will have had an opportunity to:

• list the symptoms exhibited by those experiencing baby blues, postnatal depression or puerperal psychosis and suggest suitable non-medical treatment strategies
• identify reasons why younger parents are expecially vulnerable to postnatal depresssion
• examine the particular support needs of younger parents and the barriers they may experience in accessing available services
• understand the effect of post-traumatic stress syndrome in the context of birth, and suggest debriefing strategies
