I am applying this septemeber :) have you already applied? and if so have you heard anything? Keele is my only choice to be honest.. i live in newcastle so its very close to me. I'm not sure staffs uni accepts BTECs so i wont be applying there.
Im trying to get some voluntary work at north staffs hospital but im finding it difficult for anyone to reply to my emails there.

Yeah i've applied to start this september. I haven't yet, but have been told that they get back to everyone by March, so fingers crossed! Stafforshire do take BTECs into consideration, so you could always apply there! Keep persisting, you have to really push for these things. I did work experience at my local maternity ward, but it's a midwife led unit so perhaps you should try and find a small midwife led unit near to you? if not then try antenatal classes, or sure start they are usually good options!

Yeah i might get in touch with a sure start centre. i work in a nursery at the moment.. i got tripple distinction in my BTEC national diploma in childrens care learning and development course so i have 360ucas points. i achieved this last year in may and have been working at a nursery since. However, i have always wanted to be a midwife. Perhaps i should have taken A levels but at the time i was passionate about learning about child development etc so chose the btec course.
What qualifications do you have? and i have my fingers crossed for you!! Its just so so so competitive isnt it :/ one of my friends from primary school got on at keele last year and loves it xxxx

You generally need 240 UCAS points for a midwifery course so you'll be fine!! Working at a nursery is great experience as well, perhaps you could ring your local maternity ward and see if one of the midwives will talk to you for a bit about the job, I was told that was really good as well! I have three A levels (psychology, sociology and law) and an AS level in human biology. Yes, fingers crossed for you as well! I'm sure you'll be fine, we may both end up there!! it's insane, I'm so nervous that i won't get onto a course!

Yeah i have been to the library today and got a book about studying for midwifery. Want to try and get all the knowledge and understanding i can and relate it to my skills and experiences. i guess working at a nursery includes maintaining confidentiality, following policies and procedures, having a high level of responsibility, having trust, good relationships with parents, respecting parents decisions they make for their child, which can all relate to being a midwife.. its just putting it into 4000 characters for my personal statement! Im going to the open day in june :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
