I witnessed a baby, a few weeks ago, latching on in a similar way. I mentioned it in another post (flat nipples - solutions). It wasn't a breast crawl immediately after birth, as the baby was probably about 12 hours old at the time. From being placed between mums breasts, baby moved itself with its arms and positioned itself over the nipple. It was one of those moments that just felt amazing to watch. Mum had been having difficulties getting baby to latch on, I suggested skin to skin (mum lying in bed slightly propped up) and within a couple of minutes baby was feeding away. Amazing and beautiful!

As a mum of 2 I desperately wish I had been shown this before having my two. With my first I had a natural birth with entonox but had a 4th degree tear, retained placenta and PPH which then led to a blood trasfusion and with my second I had an elective c-section. After both of my births I was manhandled, pushed and poked to within an inch of my life and in the end gave up attempting to breastfeed either of them in frustration. I had lost all confidence in my or my babies ability to "get it right" and was, and still am, bitterly disappointed that I gave up. If I ever have another this is definately the type of breastfeeding experience I would like to have!

This is a great video. I remember the midwives talking about this when they put dd on my chest for skin to skin immediately after she was born. But it wasn't happening within a few minutes so it was sort of abandoned?? I didn't realise it could take 30-60 mins! I never did breastfeed as we both didn't really get the hang of it sadly.
