Hello, can I please pick someone's brain, I am due to start ARU Fulbourn in Sept, which I am over the moon about! My delemia is this, I have three baba's, 6 months, 22 months and 3yrs old, my hubby works shift and we both are new to the area and have no family around us.... ( an impossible task one may think!!). I NEED an Au Pair if I am to go to Uni, we cannot afford a nanny... Can anybody please please tell me what the best options are, has anybody got an Au Pair already, I am really panicking as Midwifery is my one and only dream!!!! Thank you xxxxx

    Hello and welcome!

I don't have any advise as I've never used an au pair, but hopefully someone can come along and help. Have you thought about maybe posting on somewhere like netmums?

Congrats on your place and good luck with the search x

Hello, welcome to the site! Have you thought about asking the university to put you in touch with some local firms for Au Pairs? X

or even contact the most local to you Family Services. They'll be able to post you a list of registered au pairs in your area and be able to give u sound advice on employment etc regarding au pairs.

Google Family Services and your postcode, something will work out xx

Hi, we have an aupair and she is really good. We went though an agency which I am happy to recommend. The trouble with an aupair us that they are really for children over 2 so you couldn't expect the aupair to have a baby all day. Will you get any help with childcare because you could still have the aupair in more of a babysitting role but can put the babies with childminder or nursery during the day. Pm me if you want to ask more questions.

Thank you all so much for the brilliant advice, we have started our search and it makes perfect sense what you've said. Looks like we may probably opt for a nanny, see what childcare allowance we may be entitled to and take it from there! It's a mine field out there with regards childcare and mine are still only babies. Thank you all again xx

    Hi Laughoutloud,

Welcome:). Have you considered a nanny share? Obviously only helpful if it would give you the childcare you need, but cheaper than a fulltime nanny, so it might be worth investigating! Also don't know what it's like now, but The Lady magazine always used to be full of adverts for nannies/au pairs.
Btw If you are who I think you are, we had our interviews on the same day and swapped numbers:D. Fingers crossed I'll be joining you in September ;)
