Just spoke to a really lovely lecturer at Swansea about access. I read on the website they are amended the entry requirements and wanted to find out if it would effect access. I think they may be raising the bar on the amount of distinction and merits needed. She wasn't 100% sure as yet what it will be exactly.

She was really lovely though, asked me lots of questions about my background etc and it felt like a mini interview. (I switched to 'big myself up mode and got all excited).
She told me it will be group interviews again this year as they were successful. She took my name and number and said I'd get to chat one on one to lecturers etc at the open day! I'm so excited.

It feels real now, I'm actually applying. Praying to the heavens that I get an interview, especially if they are as lovely as she was!

    Hi!

I'm also going to be applying to all of the three above, plus UWE and plymouth. I live in Bristol at the moment and Cardiff would definitely by my first choice!

I will be turning 18 in the august of 2012 so hopefully this won't put the uni's off me, as I will be so young!

Good luck to all of you and hopefully I will see some of you at the interviews (fingers crossed!!).

Good luck to all of you applying to Cardiff for 2012. It's a long and stressful process but so worth it when your offer arrives. If you have any questions about Cardiff please ask and I'll try and help. I start my first year in just over 3 weeks - so excited!!!!:D

Hi! I'm thinking of applying to UWE too, its an hours drive but it would be my last choice due to the cost of the bridge toll daily!

I wouldn't worry about your age! If you are right for the course age doesn't matter, plenty of 18 year olds get in!

I hope to see you all at interview too, and let's keep in touch on how we are all doing! Praying for us all!

Saratyn congratulations on getting into Cardiff! You must be so excited! Thank you for the offer, I know you can't give out specifics but general advice would be so much appreciated! I read the whole of the thread from last year and was very excited for you all- can I ask a question about the Maths assessment? Was it basic stuff like, graph questions, adding, multiplication etc? I'm freaking out about things like algebra!

Thanks Sarahloususan. We had our welcome day yesterday so it's suddenly all become very real! I have been really lucky of most of my cohort started talking a few months ago so it was lovely to finally meet them all.

The maths assessment was not too bad. Numbers are not my strong point and I found it ok. It's addition, subtraction, multiplication and division then a few on fractions and decimal places. I would say as long as you have your maths GCSE or the access numeracy module then you should be ok. There are loads of sites on the internet that you can find maths tests so I would give those a go then you can see if you need extra help with any of those areas.

I wish you all the best with you applications - midwifery is not the easiest course to get on to but it is possible! I got rejections on my first attempt so it was second time lucky at Cardiff although I was rejected from Glamorgan. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure your PS is as strong as possible. It's all the uni's have to judge you on so spend loads of time doing it; get friends, family etc to read it, don't just rely on your college tutors. Look at individual uni websites as some of them give quite big hints on what they are looking for in your ps.

Hope this helps a little and ask away if there is anything else xx

wooooooo hello girlies. Im gonna be applying to these three too. Glam is my first choice, then cardiff, then swansea. It's so scary and exciting isn't it. Ther are only two others in my access class that want to do midwifery, I don't know how many is in the other class. My tutor was saying last year they had a girl with all distinctions and she didn't get in - some stiff competition! Im gonna keep my fingers crossed for all of us. xx

Hi pinkgirl! There were only two in my access course as well but the other girl decided not to apply until her youngest child is a bit older.

The competition is really stiff but someone has to get in! I passed by course with 2 merits and the rest distinctions but didn't get in the first year I applied. When I reapplied for this year I realised that although my results were fab my personal statement was awful! 12 months and a completely revamped ps later and I've only got 3 weeks until I become as student midwife :D!!

Good luck with your application xx

Saratynn what a great story, really shows that the PS is everything at this point! And oh my god what amazing access results! Well done! I bet you were so exciting at your meeting day..whoohoo!
I feel comfortable with all the Maths elements you have discussed so I feel a lot better. It's alegbra etc that scares me, although I had an F at GCSE Maths I have been working with finance and figures and have brushed up a lot! So thank you! Lot's of luck for this week- and praying I see you in Uni next year in Year Two!!

Hi PINKGIRL, are you excited for applying? How is your PS coming along? I think mine is good but have had no feedback yet so it could be dire! Where are you studying Access to?
I think showing personality and suitability for the role is more important as long as you meet their entry requirements! Saratynn you obviously had both!
Looking forward to getting to know you all, and supporting eachother through the application process...arrgh!

Hi all, I am applying for the second year running, I applied to all four same choices as I am applying to this year however I withdrew from UWE for personal reasons, got straight rejections from Cardiff and Uni Glam last year but got interview at Swansea and hung in there until the bitter end. After three unsucessfuls it did make me question how much I wanted this but I couldn't just give up at the first hurdle, good luck to all of you reapplying for the first time, it is very tough and a complete rollercoaster of emotions! x
