Oh dear oh dear! Hope some of you lovelies can offer me some advice.

My son has come out in spots on his body this morning, that I can only assume is the dreaded chicken pox! He seems fine in himself, but I know this can happen sometimes with the spots being the only sign.

I am really worried now as I have my last week of community placement this week, with all my assessments & competencies to sign off, but am wondering whether I will be safe to do it. I have definitely had chicken pox as a child myself but I'm not sure if I can still carry it-I obviously do not want to pose a risk to anyone. At the same time, I am really panicking about what I am going to do if I have to miss this final week-eeek!

I was just wondering if any of you have had this scenario, or know what your trusts' protocol is regarding it??

    Many thanks in advance,

a very stressed and worried Jamboree!! xxx

My advice would be ring the on call community midwife/office tomorrow (or today if they're still working) an ask them for advice, if not, ring up before you set off monday morning and explain.
Hope he stays feeling well :)

Thanks Redpiggy for the advice, I will try and get hold of the team leader tomorrow if possible. What a stress!

Has anyone else had a similar scenario where they have missed their assessment week on placement?? I am really worrying about when I am going to get the chance to sign these skills off, the two I was aiming to do this week can only be done on this placement. I guess I would have to see if I could go out at some point during annual leave at Easter as our Practice Assessment Document needs to be submitted before the summer hols.

Deary me, well can't be helped I suppose! xxx

Phew! Well I just asked the co-ordinator and it is apparently fine-unless you have chicken pox yourself you are not considered a threat to others. Just thought I would post in case any others in the future have a similar predicament to alleviate panic!!! xxx

Thats great news, hope your little ones feeling better soon, wish my three of 6, 5 and 2 could catch chickenpox for some reason they never ever get it, they get every cold and sickness bug going round but never chickenpox!

    Take care

That's good to hear mamamia7-I just worry about these things, would just feel so auful if someone at risk became ill because I had given it to them so thought it best to check.

I know just what you mean busybeeof3-my two are 5 and a half and have played with so many children with chicken pox in the hope of them getting it out of the way young, but I guess it just depends on your immune system on that particular day. It's funny how it affects people so differently too-so far his spots aren't too bad at all, and not even really itching, though I think they may be by the morning-poor thing! xxx
