I have to do the access course to get my qualifications to get into uni. My question to you is would you go to college to study or do you think home study is better?

Depends on you and your circumstances really. There's advantages and disadvantages to both. It's easier to fit home study around your job and the children but you have to be self disciplined.

College gives you a more social element and more support from other students but timetables tend to be rigid.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck. xx

I feel exactly the same as RachaelP. I dont think I could get through the course personally without the support off the friends I have made on my course.
Do what you think is right for you.
Good luck with your desicions and study!!

I prefer going to college as it gets me out of the house to meet people with similar interests and gives me a bit more discipline and motivation to study when I have other people around doing the same course and tutors pushing deadlines etc! I did try OU at one point but never got round to doing much as I always found something else in the house that needed doing.

What colleges are you applying to? I wanted to do an access to midwifery course close to Glasgow but only find one at adam smith college in Fife and I think one in perth - both too far for me. I've applied for HNC healthcare. Still waiting to hear back tho!

I am doing a distance course as I am unable to fit the college hours around my current job and my daughter, I am very self disciplined though so this helps. I think it does depend on circumstances though and this just suited me best

Hi - I was wondering about this too as I will need to do the access course before I can apply for the degree course. I have 2 young boys so may struggle with childcare but not sure if I'm disiplined enough to study at home - I start with the best intentions but it's hard!
I think the point about the social interaction and support you get from your fellow students is a good point too.
Good luck with whatever you decide

go to college to do it.

it is so reassuring being round people going through the same thing. i have made some good friends this year, some i'm sure i will remain friends with for a long time!!
many a time you will find a load of us in the library the week an assignments due in, helping and reassuring each other. i don't think my grades would of been as good without the help, guidance and reassurance of my fellow students!! we've also supported each other through interviews, personal statementsand the whole uni process.

i would definatelty recommend going to college
