If it has to include an audit I'd say go for time limits on 2nd stage or perineal trauma. Purely due to the fact that I think it will make your life alot easier cos you'll have more definite numbers to work with. There's LOADS out there on perineal trauma, and it's relation to positions for second stage so that may be a good route to go down. I'd also suggest picking a subject that actually interests you 1) because you'll get get fed up of reading and re-reading the literature and 2) because doing your diss is a great way to enhance your learning on something that you already have an interest in xx

I'm getting a little bit obsessed with mine now... I am going to need to buy more ink with the rate I'm printing articles off! Need to think about reading a few of them at some point soon too lol!

I'm glad everyone is so excited about theirs! It's such an important part of your degree and people still ask me what I did for my dissertation now i'm qualified - so I feel it's a part of your definition as a midwife :) Keep up the good work everyone! anyone got a good idea for keeping tabs on all your information? Do you write notes in little books, or cut and paste stuff everywhere or print reams and reams of articles and grab out a highlighter? X

I have a big a4 notebook and jot stuff down in there, I also print loads and highlight then write summaries/notes and ideas notes etc in my notebook. I love coloured pens and mindmaps :D

Thanks for your help. I've almost decided now (just running it past tutor) on something totally different LOL. Am going to look at caseload midwifery in some shape or form (continuity of care/carer throughout hopefully) as it's something I've always felt passionate about - why I didn't consider it before is anyone's guess LOL

I have started mine now and it's officially kicking my butt! Looking at why we are continuing to use Syntometrine for third stage management when NICE guidelines recommend Oxytocin alone.

It seemed like such a long way off in the first year and now I'm in it I don't wanna play!!

Interesting - we use syntometrine too and would be interested in why! Hope it comes alive for you and you get into it soon.

it's really interesting but completing the data extraction tool is really hard work. I've literally spent ALL DAY on it today and have only inputted details for two out of six studies!

I am wondering if the choice of syntometrine over syntocinon will ultimately come down to money :-(

Hello Midwives and Students! I haven't even been offered a place at Uni yet altho 2 interviews down and one next week (eeek!) . I'm doing a research project at College (Access to HE) at the moment on the subject "Fathers' support of their wives and partners during pregnancy reduces the risk of Post Partum Depression" Is there anybody out there with advice for me? I have contacted several online groups and have access to a number of mum and baby groups etc aswell but am keen to hear from anyone with any great links, articles, experience in this field etc. Many thanks I know how busy you all are with your own work. :help:
