    Hi

I wondered if anyone could give me some advice on the current timetable for Edinburgh Napier and the placements.
I hope to apply this year for a place in 2013. I live in Fife and have 2 young children but would have to rely on childminders as no other local family. How often would I be at uni? I would love to be on placement at our local hospital in Fife but I am aware that Napier do not currently use Fife hospitals (although I am ever hopeful that they might change their minds :)). At an open day at Dundee (before they stopped funding for midwifery >:0) I was told that they always took into account my home address when allocating placements. Is this what I could expect from Napier? Just trying to work out if it would be doable.

    Thanks for any help.

Hi ya, I'm currently in first year at Napier. The timetable we had at the beginning of the year was 9-12 on a Monday, tuesday off (study day) Wed 9am or sometimes 10am till 4 but usually we finished around 3. Thursday was 9 til 12 and friday was 10 till 2. I'm on placement just now for 5 weeks which is in the community and my hours are 9-5 (30hrs a week). When we go back to uni the timetable is going to change again so it looks like I'll be in mostly every day until about 3pm but there are a few self directed study days (where we don't actually have to come into uni, but still have work to do at home) but they tend to be on different days of the week. As for where you will be placed, we have been told that Napier will be taking over Fife and the forthvalley for placement areas but it is a work in progress so I don't know when they will actually begin putting students out to these areas. Therefore, your placement could still be within the Lothian area but they would def take your address into account. I live in the Stirling area and have 4 young children, like you I have no family living locally and rely on childminders and nursery but so far I am managing well so I definitely think it is doable.

Anyway, hope that helps and good luck ;)

Thank you for your reply. Your hours at uni are not as long as I had thought and if they do indeed take over Fife for placements then that would be great news for me. Something I will have to ask when I go to the next open day.

Thanks again. You've made me feel a lot more positive. Good luck with the course.

Catchababy has fabulously covered it all, but just wanted to add that after that first trimester, when you're in theory it's usually 9-3/4pm four days a week. Usually we get Fridays off :)
And I've heard a wee rumour we might have Fife next year... Very gossipy here, but I've heard it might happen sooner than we think :) which would be so handy for A LOT of our students!
