If you lay out your delivery trolley then put the scissors with the handles AWAY from you, and the clamps with the handles closest - it gives you that split second extra time to realise (and if that split second means you haven;t got time to cut an episiotomy it wasn't needed anyway)

as soon as i open my delivery pack i get the scissors and put them underneath the tray so i cant accidentally grab them!

Oooh I have one. I was looking after a lady who'd come in in labour. She'd had a stretch and sweep a couple of days earlier and so I was reading about it. All looked ok until I saw a comment which said "cord felt" at the end of the VE write up. Well, i read it a few times, thinking "nooo, that can't be right". Then decided to discuss it with my mentor. She freaked out, getting all nervous and talking about stikings off etc. We went and told the ward manager who also freaked out a little bit.

I went back into the room to check it again and noticed a teeny little "o" just before the "no". Oops.

Bad documentation on the MW's behalf i think but I then had to go and tell everyone my mistake before they started going mad at people.

:lolabove: This thread makes me laugh, but also inspires terror at the thought of all the silly misakes that I will make at some point or another :/:
