it depends really in the beginning you just watch and then when you have seen a few borths you can get more invoved, you have to just basically be there it depends on the mentor you have because some are much more hands on than other but basically when the baby is crowning you are there and then once the baby is going to deliver you would assist in being the baby up and to mum or wherever it is going, you would then need to deliver the placenta as well for it to count as a delivery, if the placenta doesnt come then you cant out it.
the more you get into the coursr the more you do and the less your mentor will do
    :)

Congratulations on your first catch

Sounds like you had your hands full what with the language barrier and the decels, so doubly well done!

    Hi,

Firstly, you must remember no question is ever stupid! If you don't ask you don't know.
In order for a delivery to count as one of your 40 for qualification you must deliver the baby either on your own with the supervision or support of your mentor your mentor can be hands over yours to guide you through delivering the anterior shoulder then the posterior and bringing the baby up through the curve of caress to the mothers tummy/ arms and you must deliver the placenta and membranes.

I had a fantastic delivery, with the woman on her knees, was new to me not to deliver with woman on her back! I was unable to count it as she had retained placenta which was surgically removed in theatre. Mum and baby both well though.
