I don't regret applying for nursing at all. I start in Feb and I am really excited. For me it is a chance to better myself, this is a way out of poverty a real life line for my family. Of course I still think about midwifery but for now I am going to do my very best to become a brilliant nurse. Either way, I will have a career!

Hiya, it's been a while! How are you getting on with your app?

    Hows it going?
Surprisingly, really well. It wasn't an easy decision for me to make and I had a lot of doubts before starting but being on placement was amazing! A lot of the patients were in for weeks at a time and most were 'regulars' (which is sad) but it meant I could follow their care and build relationships.

    Any regrets?
None at all, I dont think I realised just how rewarding/satisfying/interesting nursing can be and just how many options are available to me. I think this cohort has been lucky as it the first doing the degree (bachelor of science)

Do you still think about Midwifery?
Yes and No. When I first started the course I was determined as soon as I finished this degree OH would be posted down south and I would apply for the conversion asap. Now I am thinking that I will be happy to stay nursing for a few years after qualifying. Midwifery is still something I really want, I am still passionate about, still subscribe to the journals, read books and watch the programmes BUT I am happy to wait a while and enjoy this first then apply to do the conversion.

Are you enjoying nursing more or less than you imagined?
A lot, lot more than I ever could have imagined, if circumstances had been different up here I would never have taken the chance nursing. I am sooo glad I did, nursing was never open for discussion for me, I left the RAF to become a midwife!

Hey Wozza, well you already know what I think but I'll post it in here too.

How's it going? it's going amazingly, I totally love every bit of it. It is so interesting and rewarding and I feel so proud to be doing it. I have made friends for life with my friends in the cohort and the lecturers are fab too, really inspiring.

Any regrets? Nope! I admit, the first few weeks were hard because we hadn't really started the nursing part of the course, we were just settling in and I found that part boring and was actually going to quit and reapply for midwifery. I'm so glad I didn't!

Do you still think about midwifery? Yes but it's not breaking my heart anymore, nursing has filled the space :) I would still like to experience midwifery one day but it's not the be all and end all any more, I've found that I can help people just as much with nursing, you still get to make decisions and be accountable and it's so challenging and interesting. And I love all the different things I can do once I qualify.

Are you enjoying nursing more or less than you imagined? Absolutely more!
