Hi all, I'm new to the website. Been reading and watching for a while but never posted before today. Have took the plunge and put in an application for 2012, although not until the day before closing. I am a mature student (33) with five children and have wanted to have a career change for several years to enter midwifery. Decided it was time to do something about it and will now have to wait and see, like so many of you. I wondered if any one has any info about the stafford, wolves or keele timetables and placements that they would tell me about. I heard some uni's use one hospital for placements and others use several. Any info gratefully received. Also any tips for strengthening applications and PS advice as I'm aware that I'm likely to be here again for 2013. Look forward to chatting :)

Thank you so much for the welcome. Keep reading all the messages on here to see how interviews are going etc. Still waiting for news, but only been a week. Just hope they are still allocating interviews. Will have to wait and see. Trying to resist the temptation to keep checking UCAS. Feel a bit like a stalker lol :)

I've applied for Keele and Staffordshire, and at around the same time as you! I believe Keele uses University Hospital of North Staffordshire (and other midwife led programmes in the area) and Stafforshire University uses Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust and Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Foundation Trust. I'm not sure about any others. As for the timetables, it's 45 weeks a year in total, it's not like a regular degree as you only have seven weeks annual leave! Good luck with your application!

Hi bell131, Thanks for the info. Have you heard anything from them yet? I have rung but have been told that they are still considering applications and that Keele will respond by the end of March. The lady at Stafford said they are working through them as quickly as possible. Did you go to the open days? Which one would you prefer? Good luck with your application too. :)

No nothing! I was thinking of emailing them, but since you've said they are still going through applications i wont bother :) I applied really late as well so didn't get a chance to go see them, but my first choice is Keele! I spoke to someone doing medicene there and he said it is fantastic, it's more in the country and campus based which suits me! But there are sooo few places, i just want to get onto a course so i'm really not that fussed where I go. What about you, any preferences? We could end up on the same course!!

I studied at Keele a few years ago and it is a lovely campus, which I would happily go back to. Only thing is I now have children and it is probably the furthest from where I live, with the furthest placements. It wouldnt be so bad when in Uni but if I'm honest I think staffs, shrewsbury campus and wolves would offer the closest travelling time for placements. However I certainly wouldn't say no. Just hoping to hear something soon. The lady I spoke to at Stafford yesterday said that they didn't process my application until Jan 26th - it was in UCAS for Jan 14th - and she has only had a decision back from the tutors on one application from that batch. Hope that helps a bit. Glad to have met you. The threads for Keele and Staffs are much quieter than Wolves so good to chat to someone in the same position. Lets hope we both hear some good news very soon. I will let you know if I hear any more. I know what you mean about few places. Wolves said they have had over 600 applications this year. I keep getting told different timescales for hearing information and then sit there checking track constantly and it always says 'sent for consideration' Still that's better than an outright U lol. Are you applying after A levels or mature student? Im 33, so applying a bit later. :)

Oh really, what did you study? Yeah it's nice to know that someone else is in the same sort of position. Please do let me know if you hear anything! Staffordshire is good for me to, it's the closest one to me, I could go to my local maternity ward if i attended Staff. But I'd love the opportunity to study abroad, which keele offers. I know, i've been checking my emails and post like crazy to see if anything has come, it's addictive!! No news is good news! After A-levels, i've had a year off so i'll be 19 when i start the course, hope that doesn't go against me! Are you going for a career change?
