    Hey :)

So I came across this quote, "The traditional midwife believes that birth proceeds in a spiral fashion: labor starts, stops and starts, while the baby goes down, up and down, and the cervix opens, closes and opens. Nature has no design for failure; she holds her own meaning for success." - Sher Willis

What do you think of this? How true is it for pregnant women in the hospitals today?

I think this bit is a bit hard to swallow... leaving it all up to nature is all very well when things are going ok but not all labours would end up with a 'successful' outcome just from letting nature take its course - and I'm not fussed about what meaning 'nature' might have for success, for me it means a live, happy and healthy mother and baby!!

I think in an undisturbed birth, in a place where hormonally a woman feels safe and secure supported by people she has built a relationship with and knows her I concur...

in a hospital environment I would argue that with the disturbances, alien environment, usually a midwife who a woman has not met before there are very different and not physiologically normal reasons for birth to slow down as women are not designed to birth in such conditions.

I am obviously speaking of low risk with no underlying conditions.

I do also agree about how nature doesn't always have the same version of success as we do...

Nature sometimes kills of the less desirable and weaker subjects to ensure species survival
