If you need to drink, then just go get something for the room etc, and nab a bit on the way, i am always thirsty like yourself and needing a drink, so i just 'nip out' and get some, no one will mind. Its like i also have a bit of a dodgy pelvis sometimes so if i tell someone and sit down they dont mind. Xxx

I find it's easy to keep awake if the ward is busy as you're always on the go, the other night I was on it slowed right down so didn't so anything from 2-8am! now that ws hard, I found going outside for a walk on my break helped to wake me up.

Well, I really don't know what other alternatives you may use from staying awake for several hours without caffeine. When I was a student, coffee can prevent me from sleeping. And until now, that's what I always take because of my lesson plans for my high school classes everyday and some reports on my personal work always direct me until morning. From what I have confirmed on some blogs out there caffeine is a fantastic thing for many people, as it helps them stay awake. It may also be a burden if it causes them to remain up at night. There is an application for that accessible for the iPhone, called Caffeine Zone. Check this out: Stay perky with Caffeine Zone app
