    1.What does the word midwife mean?
    A - With Woman

    2. When measuring blood pressure what are the names that are used to describe the two numeric results obtained?
    A - systolic (top) and diastolic (bottom)

    3. At what stage of pregnancy would a woman who is found to be not immune to rubella be offered the rubella immunisation
    A - the rubella vaccine is not given in pregnancy as it is a 'live vaccine' but is offered postnatally

    4. Which regulatory body’s role is it to safeguard the wellbeing and health of the public?
    A - NMC (nursing and midwifery council)

    5. At 41 weeks gestation the community midwife discusses induction of labour with Sally - what does induction of labour mean?
    A - Initiating labour by artificial means, it is an intervention that should only be carried out when it is clear that a vaginal birth is the most appropriate method of delivery in that particular pregnancy for that particular woman and baby (NICE, 2008).

    6. What is the normal range of fetal heart rate?
    A - 110 to 160bpm at term

    7. Molly is a low risk primigravid woman presenting for antenatal care at 6 weeks gestation. According to the NICE Antenatal Care Guidelines (2008) how many antenatal midwife appointments other than the booking appointment are recommended?
    A - 9 (10 including the booking appointment)

    8. If a mother is found to have anaemia in pregnancy what does this mean?
    A - The mother has reduced capacity to carry oxygen within the blood. This could be caused by a variety of factors, a reduction in red blood cell production, or a reduction in haemoglobin. It is defined when a mother is found to have a haemoglobin level below 11.0g/dl under which NICE recommend consideration of iron supplementation or dietary adjustment. Anaemia can have symptoms such as palpitations, pallour, dizziness and fainting, shortness of breath, headache, increased pulse rate, and feeling tired.

    9. What does FGM stand for?
    A - female genital mutilation

    10. Name three POSITIVE signs of pregnancy (signs which have no differential diagnosis)
    A - X-Ray of the fetus, Palpating fetal parts, Palpating fetal movements, Visualising fetal movements, Visualisation of the fetal heart by ultrasound, Visualisation of the gestational sac by ultrasound, Auscultation of fetal heart sounds by pinard or Doppler, The birth of the baby!

    I'm in shock. I actually must have done pretty well, lacking detail in some, and completely messing up one q (that i knew about at the time but couldn't find the right info), but all in all, I'm pretty pleased with myself lol.

    Hmmm...I could kick my self for getting question 4 wrong, I was going to put that but I changed it to something else :oops:
    Oooo and I was 2 days out with SMnets birthday.......sorry TP, I should have known that one lol.
    Other than a few odds and ends, I don't think I did too badly saying I didn't turn up until question 5 was being announced (was having beer at the mil's :drink:) haha. x

    Our date is hard tbh as we did set the site up on the 28th but we didnt officially open the doors til the 30th.....

    aww yayyyy i didn't do tooooo bad for my first quiz! my answers were..

    1. Midwife means ‘with woman’
    2. systolic and diastolic
