Research shows that breast feeding is more beneficial to babies and that babies are bottle fed are more prone to particular illnessess

Your use of the word hazardous seems pretty harsh to me because no woman sets out to harm her baby!

I'm very pro breast feeding but it is not for every woman they should not be madero feel like they are doing a harmful thing by choosing to give their child formula as yor use of the words hazardous suggest!"

Back to the opening post the logo is for cow and gate not formula even if the link goes back to a site with formula milk on it so what!! It is not the fault of companies that some woman will choose to give their babies formula! I sometimes feel spry for women who may come across these post and how they must feel when they see some of the comments posted on these forums regarding formula feeding!

MidwifeMummy, it seems to me, then, that no matter what situation a mother finds herself in the information ought to be coming from the midwife or other care professional, not anybody else! (Shame they failed.) :)

what comments on here would make a woman who formula feeds feel that way other than her own perception of the way she feeds her child? No one has said here anything judgemental, if they have then i certainly have not seen it on this thread.
I just had another look through and it seems like what you deem to be offensive is the word hazardous. I'm not sure that is so offensive but that's just my opinion.

Kadejah, it's every womans choice how she wants to feed her baby and if that is bottle feeding she should be able to access information through the NHS not have to speak to brands who are only interesting in selling their product - not about the health of that baby

    I agree penguin.
It's like that ad I mentioned some months back on the telly, it shows a woman breastfeeding and says 'should you choose to move on' with the changing seasons in the back ground (2 seasons pass before the woman chooses to move on) and the music is an octive higher to give the impression of a brighter future... then says 30 years breastmilk research e.t.c.
Yes women deserve information but just a simple impartial leaflet would suffice with advice to check the back of the formula tins to see the ingredients e.t.c. if they want to compare different types and with advice on hygienic formula feeding.

I totally agree with an informed choice. However, informed in my eyes should in fact include the dangers of artificial feeding. Research has in fact prove that formula isnt sterile and statistics prove that babies have suffered as a result of formula. The milk companies spend on average £5 on advertising for every child born in the UK but hardly anything on educating parents on preparing feeds correctly. The NHS only spend on average 40p per child born on promotion of breast feeding and also spend money to pay for NHS staff to educate parents on safe artificial feeding. Its crazy and boils my blood!

I'm not criticising any woman, whether she bottle feeds or not. I have a problem with these companies being allowed to advertised.

The fact is there are risks involved with formula, and we can't pretend there are not and censor the debate because it might upset some women, isn't that just stopping other women from accessing the facts?

Being a mother who desperately tried to breast feed only to discover after loads of support and help I actually wasn't producing any milk, I was so glad that my midwives helped me make an informed choice on formula and all the pros and cons of different stages, mixes brands and supplements so I could dispatch my husband to get the right one as I was in hospital 2 weeks with no real Internet etc.

Breast will always be best but if you have wonky ones or a poor diet then women may need some help. Right now there are a lot of mothers and babies presenting with vit D deficiency and in this case supplementing mothers milk is a good idea.

Also remember some women who have to formula feed didn't plan it that way and are dealing with a lot of pressure and guilt from it, I know I struggled and worried time I should have been enjoying my new bundle of joy.
I do believe the facts and choices need to be out there so in some small way FF moms feel like the have some control over the milk that their baby receives especially if the choice to BF isn't there, I was on chemo 5 weeks post partum for my lupus so even if I had have BF I needed something for my son to move to. ( I know women like me are the exception but we still need care and people who can help us through choices)

Ps please don't all shout at me xxx
