I am arranging an itu placement but have no idea what to put as learning objectives.
mmm tricky one... gain an insight into what happens on ITU, learn about the roles and responsibilities of the staff to gain an awareness of how midwives can work collaboratively with them??
Fluid balance, pressure area care, invasive monitoring, hygiene in the unconscious patient. ITU is where you can obtain experience in caring for your sick women. Think of the underlying principles for PPH, sepsis and eclampsia.
Also in this area supporting relatives is a massive part of the nursing care provided. It is a great area for learning about how all the major physiological systems work together (or not in the case of the ITU patient). Enjoy, it is a great area to work.
