Hope you dont mind me butting in lol just wanted to say hi ladies - only signed up here a few days ago I am applying to Keele 2012 as first choice! :)

The thought of not getting in makes me feel ill already I live in stoke on trent and north staffs is only 5/10mins away so it is ideal especially as I have little one! I have actually given birth in the new maternity unit lol!!!

I am also thinking of applying to staffs (although the shrewsbury hospital placement is far for someone who doesnt drive) poss chester/wolves/bhm as can get there on public transport. Moving not really option.

Def hoping to get to next open day - it would be nice if smnet ladies ended up getting places :p

Hi Kiki! Welcome to SM.net and the Keele thread! :D

You're in a similar position to me - I'm in Stoke, settled with kids so moving is not an option! I haven't set foot in the new maternity unit though, I think they frown on people just wandering round for a looksy! :D Whats it like?

I only applied for Keele last yr and didn't get in, so am back for more and am also going to add Staffs, Chester, Wolves and either Brum or Manchester, although to be fair, anywhere other than Keele is going to be quite difficult as they're quite far. Its not the uni time I worry about, its the placements.

I think there were only 3 or 4 ladies from last yrs thread that have got spaces :( I think that was lower than the year before, so we can smash all records this time and we can all get in!! Gotta have that PMA!! :D

Same here - Keele is best option for me! But don't want to put that as my only one in case the worse should happen - even though I don't drive I guess I will have to cross that bridge when I get to it!!!

As you probably already know the maternity unit is brand new (very posh for stoke I might add haha). When you first walk in theres a general reception and then to the right is the scan area for people having their scans. You walk past reception and there is lifts at the back. One floor is MLU delivery suite - from what I can remember there is 1 birth pool - massive very clean with mood lighting :)

There is approx 6-8 rooms for low risk mothers giving birth and they are all very nice big and all have ensuite bathrooms. The policy is that all mothers will be allocated a room wen they first arrive and you will stay in that room until they leave with baby (unless you are me and cover the room with waters/meconium so I had to move). On other floors they have 2 wards, consultant care etc and also theatres (which again I got to experience due to unfortunate MROP :(). I also experienced a ward a week later due to complications from spinal but I got individual room with ensuite bath so I assume they are all like this?

But overall the facilities are lovely, the midwifes and theatre team were really friendly (from my experience) so I would feel very positive about working alongside them in that environment!

    Hi Kiki,

Nice to meet you hun, and I hope you are well :) sounds like you had fun having your baby, bless you.

I haven;t been to the new maternity unit either, I had my little girl at Liverpool womens, which I thought was an extremely well organised hospital, but moving for me isn;t an option either, and the journey seemed quite long- 1hr , whilst I was labouring in the back of the car, KILLER lol lol ,

Anyway sorry its short and sweet, I am off out to enjoy the weather. All us girlies need PMA PMA PMA :) good luck xx

    Morning All
Been away at my cousins wedding for the weekend so just having a catch up :) I am loving being in Stoke and the kids love it too. No more moving for us so wherever I apply needs to be commutable. Deffo Keele and Staffs, have talked about Manchester but dont know how realistic that is with the boys.

    Hiya all,
    :help:

Can anyone help me. I am starting my access course in September so that I can go to UWE uni in 2012 to study Midwifery.
    :?

When am I able to get the application for 2012? I am going to a few open days this year but while reading through some posts on this site I have seen some people applying for 2013.

I just want to makesure it is not too late to apply.

Also can anyone share what the day-to-day study and placements are like at UWE. I have a 2 year old who will be at nursery when I hope to start at UWE but would like to know what it involves if possible!

    Thank you xxx

Hi hun! First of all, don't worry! When you start college in Sept, they'll start preparing you to apply for uni for 2012 start. You have to use UCAS and that doesn't open until Sept '11 for Sept '12 courses. Some unis accept defered places, which is where you apply as normal, but start a yr later than everyone else. Most people try for the next sept start though :)
I'm afraid I have no idea about UWE though :( its not on my choice list so I have no idea what they're looking for or where placements are. Sorry. Hopefully someone'll be along soon who can help in that respect :) xx

Hi ladies just thought id check in and ask how you are all doing with your personal statvement etc? My original was like 900+ words with about 5600 chracters ive now got it down to 700+ and 4800 so still a way to go.

Its so hard trying to cut things out ive just tried to tick all the boxes and emphasise the important bits :)
