    Hi,

I think it depends on which trust you work at, which banding you are. Some have more responsibility than others.

So is a band 3 natural progression or do you have to apply for a band 3 position, and is that as far as you can go with an MSW job?

Sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me :)

    Thanks x

I think you can progress from band 2 to band 3, i applied straight for a job at band 3.

Band 4 is more theatre assistants which are called something else i think, i might be wrong but dont think there are any msw's at band 4, not in our hospital anyway.

feel free to ask any questions x

Band 4`s in my trust are called assistant practitioners and there are only a few. They seem to work more with babies that have come out of special care and need extra care, however I imagine they do much more with the mother too. As a band 2 part of my role is to go in theatre. There are band 5 staff specific to theatre and their called operating department practitioner`s who assist the anaesistist but they have to have a degree in this and their not necessarily directly linked to maternity they just work in theatres and some do general theatre work too. There`s also the scrub nurse who is a band 5 also.
