    Hi everyone!!
I'm 41, married with two kids aged 17 and 16 and have a place to start at Coventry uni next month having done my access course last year. I'm lucky enough to live about 45 minutes away so not too far to travel and my placements should be nearer. Whenever I went to interviews we were told that the ratio of 'mature' students was 50/50 but I have to say, when I went to my taster day, there was only me and 3 or 4 others and the rest of our cohort were all around 18!! So, am I nervous and is it my imagination or are there more lines around my eyes every time I look in the mirror?!? Yup, and feels really strange to be in a class with people nearly the same age as my kids!!

Saying that, I can't wait. I'm so excited and hoping it will make me feel younger, that I can ignore the pre-menopause symptoms (don't you just love night sweats!) and that it will be everything that I have dreamt about for years.

Great idea for a thread xx

    Great idea for a thread.

I'm 37 and starting Midwifery next month whilst my little one starts school in 2 weeks.

I know it sounds mellow-dramatic but they are both major events and I've piled them on top of each other within a month and it's really, really pulling me down.

My little one is like my right arm and I'm dreading not having her with me every day, let alone rushing out in the morning before she's up and getting home shortly before her bedtime (and that's not even shift work)

I think as you get older, and especially if you have a family to care for, you get used to putting your needs to the bottom of the pile and it almost feels a bit selfish to be going back to uni - if you know what i mean.

I think, as well, I'm going to be the eldest in the class! gag! I don't want to be the eldest!!! boohoo.

anyway, moan over - fab thread and go us 35+'ers

    Hi everyone!
I'm 40 (41 in December!) and start my degree in September - was very lucky and got in the 1st year I had an interview.
I currently work as a Mental Health nurse but my ambition was always to be a midwife.
Was hoping not to be the oldest in my cohort but I am so am trying to convince myself I will brings lots of wisdom to the group even if I don't know who's at the top of the 'hit parade' or the current storyline for Hollyoaks!! Joke :p

I am 34 and starting access in September, I am married with 6 children they are 14, 12, 10, 8, 4 and 2! My husband works nights so he will be looking after our 2 year old, my 4 year old starts school in September so big changes for all of us. I also feel a bit selfish as I have been at home for 14 years, but I really feel I need to do this now I have been thinking about it for years and just feel the time is right now. I am sure there will be tears along the way but I just can’t wait for it all to start. I am so excited and nervous at the same time, and still can’t quite believe I have been accepted for the access course!! Great thread it is really nice to read that I am not the only one just starting out at this age!!

    Hi everyone

I am 42 (soon to be 43) and starting my course in October at CCCU in Medway. My girls are 19 and 17 and busy with their own lives ( eldest has left home anyway) so free at last to do a job I really want to do, rather than what fits best with the family's needs. I'm doing the 18 month conversion course as I was a general nurse in the dim and distant past, so no 18 year olds but I definitely seemed to be the oldest on the day I interviewed.

    Hello everyone.....another member here :D

I am 41 and have 3 children; 17, 14 and 13. Like you Twinky I will also be leaving home and I am feeling very sad, selfish and guilty about it :( I will also be hoping to travel back home as often as I can. I have been married for 20 years and my hubby and my kids are being so supportive and brave about it all but I will not want to say goodbye on the 26th!!! It's only 3 and a bit weeks away!!

I will be checking in to see how everyone is getting on and we can take our journey to midwifery together....it's great to know there is a support system here because I am sure we are gonna need it :D

    Much love

    Hello all

I'm 38 and have just finished access. I have a place at Hull for 2012 so will be sitting here twiddling my thumbs for a year :D or at least I would if the family, work, the Rainbows and Brownies would let me!
