    Hi,

Im thinking of applying to my local university (UEA) in norwich and i have some Gcses but not all, i need to re-take my maths to get the entry requirement and i have a Open University qualification.

I have heard that as im 26 im classed as a mature student and therefore my qualifications don't really matter and i can just apply with what i have now.

    Can anyone help with this??

    Donna

You are classed as a mature student - everyone over 21 is. But I'm not sure why your qualifications don't matter as you say - we have to meet the requirements just like everyone else! They do recognise that some mature students may not have GCSEs/A Levels etc. & usually ask for an alternative (like the Access). Sounds like crossed wires so i'd get in touch with admissions for clarification. Xx

I agree with Ilythyia, your qualifications definitely count and you should contact the unis to find out what you need in order to meet the entry requirements.

    thanks!

This is what it says on the UEA site...Applications are encouraged from those with non-traditional qualifications. Applicants with the following
qualifications are required to demonstrate GCSEs/O-Levels at Grade C or above in English Language or
Literature, Mathematics and a Science subject, or equivalent, except the Access to Higher Education
Diploma which does not require additional GCSE qualifications.

so am i right in thinking that i can do a access to HE diploma and then i wont have to worry about taking my maths GCSE again??

Some Uni's do want the full GCSE alongside the Access, but a lot are happy with the level 2 modules included in the Access & from reading that it looks like UEA is one of them - but again I would still check with the admissions team directly, especially as the entry requirements are frequently changing :)

It does say in black and white there if you did access you don't need gcse maths. However unis are notorious for raising the bar last minute so I would get an email you could save confirming that fact if I were you.
