I had the same, just got directed to sitemap, but looked under 'students' along the top bar (midirs.org, services, podcasts, STUDENTS..) and if you hover over that there is the option of 'practice developments'. All of the info is on there
    xx

The female breast: structure & changes during pregnancy & lactation

It is important for practitioners to have a sound knowledge and understanding of the normal anatomy and physiology of the female breast. From this knowledge they then need to be able to understand the changes that occur during pregnancy and in preparation for lactation. Therefore, whether or not women are breastfeeding, it is important to understand the normal processes for the breast tissue where it is producing milk or where lactation is inhibited.

This means that in order to support women effectively, whether they are breastfeeding or not, midwives and others offering advice to women during the postpartum period should be able to identify early signs of inflammation eg mastitis, infection eg candida albicans (thrush) and/or trauma, eg cracked nipples, and be able to implement care strategies and support to remedy these or make appropriate referral to a medical practitioner or lactation consultant.

Download the pdf from MIDIRS resources here :)
