I know this looks like quite a lot, its horrible, some of the outcomes seem to be aimed at third year students, its the wording that the problem.

Sorry, I have no advice to offer but some of those learning outcomes (LO) are horrendously long. There is 7 elements alone to LO 3. My midwifery performance indicators for year two aren't as long as yours. I am sure someone will be along to help with this hun.

Hi, I studied children's nursing before this, is this for you CAP Doc- do you need to give examples etc?

Basically LO is asking you to undertake a full assessment so it would be like your admission assessment on the ward. It sounds wordy but if you use a model such as Roper, Logan and Tierney then you will more or less cover everything, although you might need to expand on your holistic care, ie have they got a social worker/ if they have a disability do they have respite care etc etc.

LO2 is making a plan of care based on their needs. Again you could use RLT- (it may well have moved on from this as I finished my training in 2006) we used to have a sheet for each activity of daily living in the bedside doc and we would write a plan of how we would achieve each outcome, with a goal for each point that was time limited and measurable.

LO3: Is adapting to a situaton, reassessing at necessary points. Ie if a patient's airway becomes compromised you need a new plan of care and you need to evidence why you have changed the plan of care, so perhaps they are now in oxygen because their sats are below 90 or something.

LO4: Is kinda the documentation side of LO3 (3 is more the practice and 4 the theory)

LO5: Is really about using evidence based practice, ie why have you made the above decision? Is nasal canulae more appropriate than a headbox for the compromised airway?

LO6:Maybe you asked a HCA to take a canula out? Did you the teach the parents how to suction an airway (bad example there as more like a 3rd yr task but you get my meaning)

LO7: Maintaining a professional persona- have you assisted a first year with a task? Offered an explanation? How have you supported your team members? By communicating, teamwork, completing allocated tasks. Use of the MDT.

Hope that helps. Ask if you want any further clarification.
