I don't think anyone else has asked this yet - does having savings count against you on your bursary application? I'm planning to save up this year but if they see you have savings will they give you less bursary? I'm going to be living in London and have no partner or parental support so I really need all the cash I can get!

My best friend had savings of about 4000 during her degree and it meant they decreased her entitlement, though hopefully they've changed that now :(

That can't be right - it's so unfair! I have just been googling to try and find out but I haven't found anything conclusive. I've asked on the NHS Student Bursaries facebook page, they seem pretty good at answering quickly.

Oh good, can you let me know when they reply! I have all my redundancy money coming next month which I was hoping to whack into savings and buy a house once qualified.

Sorry if this has been asked - do they class any beenefits as income? I ask as my husband is my son's registered carer and we get DLA/carers allowance.

Poppi, the NHS bursary is separate from maintenance loans and grants, which are administered by Student Finance. NHS-funded students can't get the means-tested student finance, which means part of the maintenance loan and all of the grants, but do get the non-means tested loan and all get £1000 of NHS grant, plus means-tested bursary. Hope that helps!

Just seen Wozza's post about savings, thanks for that! I need to have a look into this because I've got some savings, not a huge amount but I didn't realise we had to declare the interest from them so need to start paying more attention!
