Hi girls, have a quick question for you all to see if i'm right.

My sister hasn't had a period for 8 weeks. All tests come back negitive. She's having all pregnancy symptoms.

Now she has it in her head that she could be pregnant still because her friend has told her she didn't get a positive test till she was 3 months pregnant.

I've told her it's virtually impossible to have a pregnancy with no hcg hormone as that is what supports the pregnancy in the 1st 3 months and it is the highest in the first 3 months. She's doing another test in the morning with first wee but I said it would make no difference what time of day and it's only better in the morning because it's more concentrated because the urine sits in the bladder all night.

Am I wrong to tell her this? Surely if she was 8 weeks pregnant it would show by now? She has had a blood test to test her thyroid function etc to see why she hasn't come on and it is normal.

I do know that my Aunty never had a positive pregnancy test with both her babies, was about 15 yrs ago so the tests may not have been as accurate.

With her first she also had her periods for the first few months and finally had a scan and was told she was 27 weeks.

The body is an amazing thing, and not everyone is text book, so anything is possible !!!

I know is that is possible to have a false negative but much less likely to get a false positive. I also have heard of preg tests not showing a positive for ages too so all possible - not probable though and many things can stop periods other than pregnancy. She needs to still be following up with her Dr to try to sort it out.
eta - yes the first most concentrated wee is more likely to give an accurate result

    Hi hun

This happened to a friend of mine, although she continued to have periods (although light), she had all the pregnancy symptons, put on weight, grew a pregnant looking stomach, but she did 3 home tests and the dr did 2 which all came back negative. After a few more weeks of feeling rubbish and getting larger, the dr decided to test her thyroid, but wanted to do another pregnancy test just to rule it out; it was positive! She was sent for a scan 2 days later and discovered she was almost 29 weeks pregnant (this wasn't her first), her daughter is now almost 2! So you never know!:) Hope she gets the answer she wants x

Has she had a blood test done by GP to confirm pregnancy? She really needs to do this instead of spending money on home test kits. Maybe she could book in with the midwife at the surgery if she wants to get a more clearer and more accurate bit of advice on what could be going on with her body. What makes you say there is no HCG flying around? Sometimes ectopic pregnancies have very low HCG levels - other symptoms will be present so a definate trip to the doc or midwife is in order. If everyone comes on here and states what it could be and you tell her then it could scare her for no reason or give her false hope. x

It's uncommon but yes it can happen.. and I'm hoping I'm not one of the few.

Hope your friend gets the result she's looking for.

Beta HCG bloods at g.p or dilute her pee with distilled water incase it's too high for the test to pick up (prozone effect) it's sooo unlikely but if she's that convinced...

No she hasn't had hcg bloods done. She only had thyroid function test done as doctor thought it could be that as I have underactive thyroid too. She is going to the doctors on wednesday but just wanted to know if it was possible. Seems really weird to have a pregnancy with no hcg.
