firstly hun, don't be so down on yourself! just because you don't think you were too bright at school doesn't mean you can't do it - it's hard work but nothing is unachievable if you set your mind to it. i left with rubbish GCSEs & A levels & i finished my access course with top grades in all subjects. it can be done.

secondly, although i wouldn't recommend doing the online access course with the DLC because of the lack of support, what about studying with the OU if your uni choices accept it (check with admissions!)? i have only ever heard good reviews about the tutors & the support you receive whilst on the course. you could still work alongside it & financial support is available depending on your circumstances. Xx

you need to start believing in yourself hun because as soon as you do, you'll realise that you can (& will!) achieve exactly what you want to :)

a lot of workplaces are willing to be flexible around college courses - would it be worth sitting down with your manager & discussing? Xx

I'm studying with the OU currently and its fantastic so its definitely an option if access courses are hard for you to fit around work.

Also you do need to believe in yourself! If you want anything bad enough you will get round it! You might struggle a little to get back into study but you can do it. Have you spoken to family and friends? Hopefully they can give you some support as well.

    Don't lose faith xxxxxxx

Hello hun..I just want to say that i also left school with rubbish grades..infact i was in foundation for all my classes so the highest grade i could get was D's...I'm deffinatly not the brightest spark around but if you're determined to become a midwife you will!...I started with DLC for 6 months but have now quit due to lack of support and rubbish materials (my opinion)..I have now applied to walsall college, they do the access course. I set myself goals in life... for e.g by the time i was 25 i wanted to pass my driving test and buy a car, start a family and have our own house and to go to florida...i did everything except florida hehe! This time I would like to see myself become a registered midwife by the time im 35 (im now 29) I have 6 years and i will be over the moon if i get through the access course because like yourself i don;t have much faith in myself. I keep seeing myself graduate and seeing how proud my family are of me....but more than anything, im doing this for me. YOU CAN DO THIS :) xXx

I agree with the previous poster - if you put your mind to it you can do whatever you want with effort and hard work :)

I too got awful GCSE results (except in Child care and English/Lit) so I'm having to add modules to my access course so the Uni I want to apply to will be happy! I honestly don't believe GCSE results show your ability as a mature adult though. Mine certainly don't! Previous to my two children I worked in Conveyancing and then have run my own business successfully for the last two years at home while looking after my children. Looking at my education history I guess some people would think that surprising really. That said, I still have huge doubts about myself and whether anyone else will even believe in me too. But if we don't believe in ourselves, who else will?

You can do it! Just do lots of research and reading. It will all come together and you will feel much more confident. :)

Hi, I am in agreement with all the other posters, I also left school with very poor GCSE's and have very little confidence in myself, but the Access course has given me some amazing confidence and I am doing much better than i thought, although I still have buckets to learn.

I think you can acheive anything you put your mind to and look what you have already acheived.

You go for it, I am sure you will acheive big things.xx
