I have an exam a week on monday, i have already failed one exam (different subject) and the fear of failing again is overwhelming.
One of my downfalls (according to feedback) is basic lack of knowledge on role of midwife. I know i was bad but didnt think i was THAT bad but i digress, in this upand coming exam i am determined to ace it (or at least pass lol)
Now the role of the midwife pneumonic used in our uni for Role of Midwife is
    SCALES
    S- statuory
    C - communication/clinical
    A - advisory
    L - liase
    A - advocacy
    E - education
    S - support

I kinda need someone to tell me i am heading in right direction, but someone who speaks my language (as sometimes its the language that baffles me) I manage to attribute the right facts to the right letter (i think) - i answer in statutory sense to trust, NMC, communication/clinical covers i advise the woman, on best positions, on what her choices are, and back her in her decisions, this also covers communication to me. I liase with other HCP on her behalf, i am her advocate in getting what she wants/needs, i educate her on the things i advise on, and essentially i support her and her partner in her wishes/pregnancy labour and postnatal care? I know this is a very brief outlay but does this sound right?
In the statutory sense is this where the NMC rules about record-keeping come into it?
When i failed last exam my mentor at time told me she had a little story she wrote/said at every exam/assessment, to cover everything like introduction/handwashing/documentation. She said she would pass it on to me but she hasn't yet, and i know she is offline at minute and has left trust so if anyone has a story they use could they share?
I KNOW i am missing a vital part but despite going over and over in head and on paper i am still missing it
Not really sure what i am asking for but am so worried i fail again i am asking ANYONE for ANY advice/help/tips to help my sanity
    Thank you

You haven't mentioned anything about confidentiality in there, ensure info only passed to those who need to know, handover sheets shredded no names on boards etc

What kind of exam questions are you expecting??? Is it essay style questions or quick answers??
One thing I'd say is make sure you really know your NMC guidelines and try to refer to them as much as possible. Also, if the SCALES pneumonic doesn't mean anything to you (I must admit i don't think it would work for me) you could try making your own in your own language style. Make it silly if you like, noone else has to know it!

Essay type questions. Its just the role of the midwife i find difficult to put into words and SCALES does help me remember, but i think the main thing is i am petrified of failing another exam :(
Thak you both, iolaus confidentiality is paramount and yes i had not attributed anything to that so C will be clinincal confidental communication :)

Earlier in United States, woman's choices were only limited to an obstetrician or a family doctor. But in recent years midwives became another alternative for women with lower risk and uncomplicated pregnancies. This shows how the midwives are becoming more and more important.
