Just wondering if anyone here is planning on applying to Ryerson for Sept 2011?

I'm working on the Personal Letter and getting all my paperwork in order to apply in early Jan 2011

    Hi!
I'm applying to Ryerson too! I'm currently in the letter/documents phase ... I'll probably be done mid January. This will be my second time applying, and I think I'm a even a bit more anxious this time around. How about you?

This will be my first time applying. I wanted my 2 kids to be a bit older before pursing Midwifery so I've put it on hold for the past few years. I'll be working on the written letter over the holidays and send it in early Jan!

Did you have an interview last time? How far along did you get?

Good luck with the application process!

Good luck!! I don't suppose you know if they take elective students? I'm in my third year in the UK and trying to organise an elective in Canada, preferably Ontario or BC as we're hoping to move to Canada in a few years.

Good luck to both of you...being a midwife is great!

I'm not sure about the electives! sorry!
as for the application last year, I didn't get an interview. I've got my fingers crossed for this year though. I've decided to keep applying and eventually they're have to let me in! haha.

Running Midwife -- when you say "elective" do you mean the practicum portion? I would contact one of the schools directly and see if they can host you, or contact a practice here and enquire. I know a few midwives from overseas that work here that would probably know the process better.

I've been working steadily on my application letter -- it's tough to get out all I believe and feel! I've been working for a few years as a doula and an interpreter so I'm hoping to merge the two through Midwifery. *fingers crossed*!

    Hi,

an elective for us in the UK is a 2 week practice placement that we can undertake anywhere in the world as long as we pay and organise it ourselves. Its part of the practice placements we do already but to go we have to have achieved all our competencies and births.

I've tried a couple of universities but may try more. Good advice about contacting groups themselves though. I wasn't sure if I should, but what harm can it do! The worst will be a no right!?

Sounds like you have great skills for midwifery, your experience should stand you in good stead I bet. We are in desperate need of interpretors here. To have it combined with actually being a midwife will be invaluable! I remember writing my letter too..it was hard, but worth the effort, I love my training and can't wait to qualify this summer!

    Good luck x
