hi,my name is sarah and im coming to this profession(hopefully)in my later years.I have just failed my literacy test at west london uni and feeling a bit disheartened. Im 44,and a mum of 7,and work with the national childbirth trust.I have been told today that because i havent done any paid work recently, the universities may not take my application seriously.I am currently doing an access into nursing course, and am feeling really worried.Any advice please.

Why do you need recent paid work? Surely concentrating on your access is a good thing :) Sorry to hear about UWL, but keep your chin up and don't give up!

As long as you have referees (one being your access tutor and the other likely a colleague from the NCT) I can't see why you'd need to be in paid work to be taken seriously! :) Who told you that?

Also re literacy, is that not covered by your access course also?I know when I did the access where I live, we were covered by the study skills element. Or at least if not, can you not resit it?

Don't worry too much just yet, I am sure all is not lost xx

Hi funky rabbit, yes my course does cover essay and report writing, but not reflective writing. Its silly because I managed to pass the Maths with 18/20 and group discussion 24/24.I am going to recommend to my tutor that they teach reflective writing for the students next year. I am still waiting for replays from Kings(lol),Kingston,City and test results from Southbank, fingers crossed. X
